A Very Happy Christmas and a Peaceful New Year

from

Liam Byrne MP

and everyone in the constituency team

Anne Marie, Gill, Gordon,

Sadia & Adrian

It has been yet another extremely busy year and we now have a councillor within the team as Cllr Gill Beddows was elected in May to represent Hodge Hill on Birmingham City Council. And I would like to thank everyone who has worked hard with us - replying to questionnaires, coming to my meetings, joining my campaigns - or donated money to my charity fundraising. I just couldn't do my job without you.

I have continued the campaign for new health centres with some sites in the constituency agreed and others currently being negotiated. The roll out of Police Community Support Officers has begun and we completed our round of youth conferences and are now pushing forward the establishment of a youth council and bringing government funding for young people into the area. I have also continued to lead the local fight against drugs and press on with the campaign to save our playing fields at the Fox and Goose. The district is now paying for neighbourhood clean-up events, I have been on numerous walkabouts and held regular residents' meetings – and these will go on through 2007. Don't forget to check back to this website for the latest news.

I will continue to campaign on the issues that matter to you next year. If you have an issue you would like me to know about, there are 5 ways you can contact me:

• Book in for one of my advice surgeries on the first Friday and Saturday of each month. Call Gill on 0121 789 7287

• Write to me at my constituency office: Liam Byrne MP, 9A Coleshill Road , Hodge Hill, Birmingham B36 8DT

• Drop a note into the Council House in Victoria Square and save yourself the price of a stamp

• Write to me direct at the House of Commons, London , SW1A 0AA

• Send me an email message at liam@liambyrne.co.uk .

We all wish you a fantastic holiday period and look forward to seeing you around and about in Hodge Hill in 2007.

Development minister welcomes earthquake cash

Development minister, Gareth Thomas MP, came to Washwood Heath today to help Cllr Ansar Ali Khan hand over cash raised by local MP, Liam Byrne, for the Kashmir earthquake.

The Jammu Kashmir Development Foundation’s Kashmir Quake Appeal was presented with a cheque for £500 which Liam raised when running the Stratford half marathon earlier this year.

The handover was made following Liam’s successful trip to Dadyal, Azad Kashmir in September in which he spoke to Pakistani ministers about the relief efforts following last year’s earthquake.
