| Byrne takes Treasury role |
Liam Byrne MP today started work as a Treasury minister overseeing the creation of Britain's single border force combining immigration, visas and the customs work of HM Revenue and Customs at the border.
Liam said:
“I promised 2008 would see the biggest shake-up of Britain's border security and immigration system for 45 years.
“This new job will help me spearhead the creation of a single border force with police-like powers. My goal is to start introducing the force at key ports and airports within 100 days.”
Liam remains as the Minister for the West Midlands, helping lead the region's drive to secure New Street station. He spent his first day in his job attending the Warwickshire firefighters’ memorial service at Coventry Cathedral. |
