Liam Byrne MP today demanded the city council cleans up its act with regard to making plans for street wardens in Hodge Hill.
The Hodge Hill MP met with city council Chief Executive, Stephen Hughes, who has recently taken control of the city’s street wardens.
Liam said:
“The lack of coordination has been appalling and now it is time for the council to get a grip. Hodge Hill needs proper plans and proper powers for street wardens.”
Responsibility for street wardens has moved from Ian Coghill’s environmental services department to being under direct control by the chief executive. The move followed lack of clarity over the exact powers of street wardens.
Liam added:
“It is essential our street wardens have the powers to do their job. They need to be able to enforce rules and issue on-the-spot fines and tickets for those caught dumping or littering.”
“Residents in Hodge Hill are simply fed up with the dirty streets and the council must act now.”
